Apologies for missing last week’s post. I’m back in Penang for the holidays and didn’t bring my laptop for the ride. With everyone (including my geeky, Unix-obsessed dad WHO I KNOW IS READING THIS) at home for Christmas, there wasn’t a computer to spare for my little bloggy habit. That is, not one that could sustain my love of Photoshopping sorcery. *magicalsparkles* Anyways, I finally got my grabby hands on one unattended machine, so here’s a picture-heavy post to make up for all that.

The above photos were taken last weekend. I’d spent a lazy afternoon with my sister at the flea market held at Straits Quay. It’s one of my favourite places in Penang. There, I was weirdly fascinated by a stall that was COMPLETELY OWL-THEMED (as if I needed to bold that.) According to the stall-owner, she’d sourced them from all over the world. Cue the jaw drop of awe. She was also a darling about graciously ignoring my whole camera-snapping thing :D

Anyways, scroll down for more hyperglycaemia-inducing eye-candy. Mouse-over any photos for my completely unnecessary commentary and all that.

Hope you wonderful people had a MERRY CHRISTMAS! ^_^

PS: I’ll be doing an extra out-of-routine post on New Year’s. Here’s to 366 days of a brand new 2012! *confetti*

As promised, here’s one of the shopping finds from my Straits Quay Weekend Market jaunt. Y’know how I said I was gravitating to “smaller, more personal pieces of jewelry“? Well, I lied. This is the big, jangly bracelet that I’ve always dreamed of. I know it definitely fulfills the above all-important criteria coz I asked one of my shopping buddies for the all-important shopping-buddy-confirmation:

Me:”Whaddya think of this bracelet?” :D

SB:”Um…no comment.” -_-

Me: “Is it big and jangly?” *crazyeyes*

SB: “…Yes, yes it is.” *sweatdrop* *backsawayslowly*

According to the stall-owner, she put it together herself, so it’s *sorta* handmade. I bought it for only MYR 18 (after some haggling, she gave me a MYR 1 discount :) However, I still got flak for buying it. Apparently (i.e.: according to parents), this bracelet is an over-priced piece of junk. Well, I don’t think so.

BEGINS RATIONALIZATION FOR PURCHASE:

*My* bracelet is kinda inexpensive if you compare it to this:

This safari themed bracelet from Accessorize costs GBP 12.00! Which, according to the current exchange rate, is MYR 58.54!! That is 3.25 times the price I paid for my butterflies! Do you think think this Accessorize bracelet is 3.25 times cuter than *my* butterfly bracelet?? (Okayyy, that’s debatable -_-) Plus, *my* bracelet is unique! (It’s *sorta* handmade, remember?) That said, *my* purchase gets me more cuteness/uniqueness per Ringgit (MYR) than the Accessorize bracelet would’ve gotten! (This only makes sense if you’re infected with the Mad Shopping Disease like yours truly.)

ENDS RANT-Y RATIONALIZATIONS.

A/N: This was supposed to be a fluffy post, but I still felt so guilty about making this *unnecessary* purchase that it ended up as incoherent, illogical babbling instead. -_- I’m sorry. (BUT I’M STILL NOT SORRY FOR BUYING THIS BRACELET, MOM. *whee*)

I went to Penang’s Straits Quay Weekend Market with my friends today. It was super sunny and breezy, so the atmosphere was really nice! However, the weekend market wasn’t that much bigger than the flea market *pouts*. It was mostly the stalls from the flea market + a few more stalls. But its smallness may be due to the fact that we were visiting the weekend market pretty late (5.30pm) on the last day it was open (It was open 6-7th August 10am-10pm). Perhaps there would’ve been more stalls open if we’d visited it early on the first day? Anyways, I found lots of pretty things to buy, so I’m not too disappointed. Not disappointed at all, in fact ;)

Why you should go: The Straits Quay Weekend Market is pretty small – only about 30 stalls (?) However, they do sell some cute handmade merchandise (see my pics!). Plus, the entire market is covered, so you can shop at leisure in the shade. Overall, it’s worth a look: It’s a great place to pass the time in Penang – if only to enjoy the lovely, laid-back ambiance of a by-the-sea market. (When you’ve seen enough of the market, there’s always Straits Quay itself providing a myriad of choice restaurants and shops!) Go to the Straits Quay website for details on when the next weekend/flea market will be held :)

Okayyy, I’d love to chat (tea, cake, the whole shebang…) But now’s the time for my preeeetty pictures to take center stage ^_^ (Mouse-over the pictures for my commentary!)

I really enjoyed my little jaunt at Straits Quay Weekend Market (and, no, I’m not being paid by Straits Quay to write this ;). My pictures’ commentary was a bit hyper cause I hadn’t seen so much cute stuff all together in one place for such a long time! (I need to go shopping more often T_T) However, since this post is so freakin’ long (17 pictures = 17,000 words!?), my lovely shopping finds will have to be featured in a separate blogpost… So you can look forward to seeing more preeetty pictures next time! ^_~

I found these beautifully winged earrings at Penang’s Straits Quay Flea Market today. (Aren’t they just delicious? I snapped them up at only MYR 8!) There’s not much to write about the flea market itself: few stalls were of any note. I wasn’t too disappointed because my main reason for being there was to scope out the potential for next weekend’s outing with friends.

There is to be a Weekend Market at Straits Quay on 06-07 August (10am-10pm). According to the flea market stall owners, the weekend market should be bigger than the flea market (‘weekend’/’flea’… *nuance*). I plan to bring my camera (*snappity-snap!*), so you can look forward to some preeetty pictures next week!

Edit: Pretty pictures of my Weekend Market jaunt, as promised!
